About Feral Strumpet
Linking Magic and Mayhem. One Bead at a Time.
I haven't always made jewellery. Once upon a time I worked in an investment bank in the City in London, and then I was a therapist in a hospice, and before that I was a painter and writing teacher.
I found myself in a strange land, having moved to the UK from the US, and like any good fairy tale, I had to use my cunning to get by. That was over ten years ago. I am a writer and jewellery designer and maker based in Banff on the North East Coast of Scotland. I offer imaginative handmade gothic, witchy, rockabilly and Victorian jewelry inspired by dark fairy tales and folklore, Hammer Horror films, gothic novels and pagan ritual. I also lovingly refurbish antique and vintage finds that suggest their own dark histories. All handmades are created one at a time in my workshop and home in what was once a school built in 1803. I'm serenaded by the wind, waves and sea birds on this wild edge of the North of Scotland.
Though I'm now living in Scotland, I came of age on the West Coast of the U.S. and that sunny nostalgia and the cultural hybridity of Cali still brighten my imagination.
I work with copper, sterling silver, and carefully chosen semi-precious stones. Sometimes I use fire polished and pressed Czech glass, Swarovski crystals, and antiqued brass findings. I combine recycled fragments of vintage jewellery and rosaries. I occasionally use Tierra Cast findings, because their quality is unmatched.
My Etsy shop is a two-person family operation. I design, make, and photograph the pieces myself. My partner Michael answers queries/conversations, packs up orders, and posts parcels to my lovely customers all around the world.
I value every customer, and we always strive to answer queries the same day. All items come gift wrapped as well. I'll never forget the first time I saw someone while out and about who was wearing one of my designs! I didn't know her, but I felt like I'd seen a friend.
What my customers are saying:
"Great seller, very communicative, super fast shipping, and stunning jewelry. One of the best shops on Etsy." -Aliza C.
"Fast delivery and pretty wrapping and pouch. Lost for words, this is such a lovely necklace, perfect fit. The little bat has lots of detail, really sweet. If you love bats or like something a little unusual, I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this lovely necklace. The Czech amethyst crystals are exquisite." - Jacqui D., UK
"...everything is beautiful ... you have magic hands!" --Sarah, Germany
